Work Without Opus 22
Work Without Opus 22
I. Overture
II. Aria "With this wreath upon my head"
III. Duet "Doomed to prostrate"
IV. Chorus "We, the humble equites"
V. Aria "Accursed by the sacred fates"
VI. Finale. Fugue
This "oratorietto" was composed by myself, Rayn Jandos and Frederick Huang in an hour (and revised for another hour by myself with a fugal choral finale) as a joke, where Jandos, a fellow baritone at my music school sought to break the world record of "shortest oratorietto" with his libretto depicting the short-lived reign of Roman Emperor Lucius Domitius Domitianus. Coming out of the grandeur of my own 1:45:00 second symphony (Op. 19), I took the challenge (crashed by pianist Huang, who contributed a theme from his Cello Sonata No. 2). This work provided me an exercise in the opposite extreme—how to present thematic material in the most concise way possible.
